SportsLife Leadership is expanding its reach by joining forces with FAITH RXD, which has been serving the CrossFit community for the past decade.
“We believe God orchestrated this incredible opportunity for these ministries to unite for greater Kingdom impact,” – Carl Perry
“We believe God orchestrated this incredible opportunity for these ministries to unite for greater Kingdom impact,” says Chief Sport Officer Carl Perry. “This collaboration is a perfect fit and advances our mission to raise up leaders within these unique competitive sports communities.”
Although SportsLife Leadership was established last August, this opportunity has been years in the making. Becky Conzelman and SportsLife President Dan Britton both served with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and became friends through their shared experiences as professional athletes—Becky as a cyclist for the US National Team and Dan as a professional lacrosse player. After retiring, Becky joined the rapidly growing CrossFit movement and quickly emerged as one of the sport’s top female competitors.
Their connection endured after Becky moved to Colorado, where she and her husband Jim launched a new ministry called FAITH RXD.
“Becky and Jim aimed to reach the expanding CrossFit community globally with a Gospel-centered approach. They had a compelling vision for providing resources and events for CrossFit gyms,” Britton explains. “FAITH RXD was a God-sized vision!”
In 2013, they officially launched Faith RXD as a nonprofit ministry. Inspired by their vision, Dan agreed to consult and advise them on establishing their structure, helping with board training, international outreach, and facilitating a partnership with the International Bible Society, which led to the publication of a FAITH RXD New Testament.
“I was captivated by their focus,” – Dan Britton
“I was captivated by their focus,” Britton shares. “There was a unique opportunity to establish a ministry where none existed before. I was eager to help in any way possible.”
Tragedy struck in 2019 when Becky unexpectedly suffered a brain aneurysm and passed away.
“The healthiest person I knew suddenly died,” Britton reflects. “It was a tragic loss, especially as the ministry was thriving, adding staff, and flourishing. After Becky’s passing, maintaining momentum became a challenge.”
In the following years, Britton kept in touch with Jim. When SportsLife Leadership was formed last summer, Jim was among the first to reach out about a potential partnership collaboration. As SportsLife launched its first sports ministry in wrestling in November 2024, the timing felt right to explore a connection with FAITH RXD.
“The SportsLife executive leadership has over 100 years of combined experience in sports ministry,” Britton notes. “We can provide the structure and focus needed to grow the ministry and expand Faith RXD’s reach within the CrossFit community.”
“RX” is a common term in CrossFit that signifies the prescribed workout each athlete aspires to complete. The “D” in RXD is silent, indicating that the athlete has successfully completed their goal. This serves as a fitting metaphor for the Christian way of life, which demands daily commitment and discipline.
Britton sees another biblical metaphor unfolding.
“Luke 9:38 states, ‘the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few,’” he explains. “We believe the harvest is abundant. The CrossFit world is vast, and FAITH RXD has been planting seeds for the past 10 years. With this new relationship and structure, we anticipate reaching tens of thousands. We believe God will do incredible things.”
According to Perry, commitment and discipline are vital for CrossFit athletes, but community truly drives the sport. He and his wife have been part of the CrossFit community for eight years, and now their teenage children and Perry’s mother-in-law are also actively involved.
“Unlike team sports, CrossFit continues well beyond high school or college,” he adds. “You see men and women of all ages and body types at CrossFit gyms—a diverse mix of people from various backgrounds. FAITH RXD allows us to connect with them where they are.”
Britton and Perry are currently seeking an executive director to lead the FAITH RXD ministry within SportsLife Leadership.
“What I love about SportsLife Leadership is our ability to reach people whom the church sometimes struggles to connect with,” Perry says. “Many of these individuals may never step foot in a church, but they will go to a CrossFit gym.”
SportsLife welcomes Faith RXD into the family and aims to fulfill this mission by providing organizational support and resources to on-site ministers known as chapter leaders. At its peak, FAITH RXD had over 80 chapter leaders across the U.S. and in several other countries, conducting workouts followed by Bible studies.
“We want to rebuild that infrastructure and empower leaders who feel valued, served, and supported,” Perry states. “As we disciple and serve these leaders, they will be better equipped to disciple the athletes they lead. Our prayer is that God would move in these gyms in a way that transforms lives for eternity.”
